So, it's 2009. Another year has passed, and that means another Christmas as well. Another Christmas means new games for me, and this year it was Sonic Unleashed and Mirror's Edge. While I haven't given Mirror's Edge a try as of yet, I have played Sonic Unleashed, even after all of the negative reviews from big names like X-Play and Game Informer magazine. But I'm getting ahead of myself. This year, my resolution is to make higher grades, more specifically nothing less than B's, from now on, starting with a straight A report card in the third quarter. This means less activity here and on the other websites of which I am a member, but more success in my _real_ life, which should become more rich as time goes on.

And now, a first-time, first-glance review of Sonic Unleashed.

I can honestly say that they definitely exaggerated the negative aspects of the new Sonic, especially the Werehog aspect. While it is definitely a sudden stop in the spedy action of the daytime levels, so were the shooting and treasure hunting sections in SA2/SA2B, so that really isn't anything negative at all. In fact, they inproved on some of the problems of the previous 3D games, such as the troublesome camera and choppy controls (which were only present in Sonic 2006, but still represented a major problem). Really the only true problem in this game are the imprecise controls, which none of the reviews that I have read or seen so far have even touched on. This is mostly only a problem in the Nightime levels (I just spent two hours on the night level in Chun-nan [read: China] trying to make a jump between two poles that should not have even been difficult). Sure the dialogue is a bit corny at times, what with Chip's constant babbing about some dessert or other and with Tails' still-too-girly voice. Honestly I prefered the Tails from SA/SADX and SA2/SA2B, but I suppose it's none of my buisness. But I digress. The main point I'm trying to make here is that SU has been wildly misjudged simply because of his somewhat lacking games in the recent past (Sonic 2006, Shadow The Hedgehog, Sonic Advance 3, and Sonic Heroes, as far as I'm concerned), and his most recent adventure certainly signals the return of Sonic to greatness.
